Matale regularly written as Mathale, is the executive capital and largest metropolis in the Matale District, Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is 142 kilometres from Colombo and close to Kandy. Surrounding the metropolis are the Knuckles Mountain Range, the foothills were referred to as Wiltshire with the aid of the British.
